Dental Crowns

Get information about Veneers with the explanation of specialist dentist Egemen Ozdemir.

It is considered more appropriate to cover very decayed teeth, worn or broken teeth. Sometimes, veneers may be recommended to add an aesthetic touch to our smile and to have a better set of teeth. It is often seen that crowns give better results than laminates in treatments to improve the appearance of teeth.

Dental crowns last much longer than laminates and Lumineers. Since they surround the teeth, they can protect the health of the teeth very well for a long time. Dental crowns can close missing tooth gaps, congenital gaps between two teeth, which are usually found in the front teeth. They allow us to lengthen and shorten the teeth, and to shift the teeth to achieve a symmetrical appearance. In addition, thanks to the materials whose light transmittance is very close to our teeth, we can have a very natural tooth appearance.

In treatments containing full veneers, different materials can be selected according to the area where the crowns will be applied and the expectations of the patients. Some of these materials are:

1) Metal Supported Porcelain Crowns

Metal porcelain crowns are dental prostheses that provide a natural tooth appearance by adding the aesthetic appearance of porcelain on top of the metal infrastructure, providing support and strength. The fact that its infrastructure is metal helps it to withstand the chewing force more than other materials.

In areas where multiple teeth cannot be implanted for various reasons, the most robust solution is metal-supported porcelain. Although it was preferred more in the past, it is less preferred with the use of more aesthetic materials such as zircon and Emax in the dental field. However, it is the type of crown that is still used for dental veneers in the back of the jaws. You can quickly learn from our patient assistants and doctors by using the free consultation section which coating type will be more suitable for you.

What is the production time of metal supported porcelain crowns?

Depending on the number of teeth, 3 to 6 days are sufficient.

In which cases metal supported porcelain crowns are preferred?

It is mostly preferred in the back teeth of the jaw, or in cases where two or more teeth cannot be implanted due to bone deficiency or diabetes.

How long is the usage period of metal-supported porcelain crowns?

Although it is important to make porcelain crowns, the technique of application, the material used for bonding and the application of the right method, it has been around for ten years in young patients with good oral care. This period is slightly shorter as gingival recession is more common in older people.

Will metal-supported porcelain teeth break?

Under normal conditions, although the force can be easily removed from a tooth, if the person clenches his teeth at night, either the porcelain part may crack or break in the face of trauma.

What are the differences between metal supported porcelain veneer and zirconium or emax veneer?

Although metal-supported porcelain is more durable than other veneer materials, it is aesthetically inferior to zirconia veneer or Emax veneer. It has a duller appearance.

Is it normal to see a gray line on the gingival border of the porcelain coating in my mouth that I had done before?

All types of dental veneers are prepared in accordance with the current condition of the mouth. However, in people who do not have good oral care, there may be gingival recession around their natural teeth as well as gingival recession around their veneered teeth. In such cases, the color of the metal in the infrastructure may be reflected. For this reason, metal-supported porcelain application in the anterior regions is not recommended except when necessary.

Do metal-supported porcelain veneers cause allergies?

Since there is no zinc element in the new type metal-supported porcelain coatings, it does not cause an allergic reaction.

2) Zirconium Dental Veneers

Zirconia is essentially a white semi-metallic element with light transmittance. Its use in dentistry has increased in the last twenty years. Since it can transmit light, a closer look at the natural tooth can be obtained.

While zirconium can be used as a substructure material, dental prostheses can be produced only from zirconium (monolithic). Since the aesthetic properties of porcelain are better than zirconium, monolithic zirconia crowns are generally used in the posterior teeth of the jaw, but monolithic zirconia can rarely be applied in the anterior teeth. However, using zirconium as a general infrastructure material for anterior teeth allows us to obtain a more aesthetic and natural tooth appearance. You can quickly learn from our patient assistants and doctors by using the free consultation section which coating type will be more suitable for you.

Is applying zirconium dental crowns a painful process?

We work completely under local anesthesia while performing zirconium dental crowns. In this way, the comfort of the patient during the procedure is at a high level. Since the top layer of the teeth is abraded, we stick the temporary teeth in the mouth as soon as the procedure is finished in order to ensure the comfort of our patient during the construction of their permanent veneers. Thus, our patient does not feel pain, except for minor sensitivities. They can pass the process comfortably without falling behind from their daily life.

Why is zirconium dental veneers preferred and why not?

Since zirconium dental crowns are aesthetic materials, they can be preferred in every part of the mouth. It is not suitable for use in the form of bridges only in the posterior regions with two or more missing teeth.

How long is the production time of zirconium tooth coating?

Depending on the number of teeth, it varies between 3 and 6 days.

3) Empress or Emax Crowns

Empress crowns are dental coatings that do not contain any metal. It is a type of dental coating obtained by adding glass particles into specially produced ceramic molds. The presence of glass particles in it not only adds durability but also provides a brighter appearance. Thus, whichever color is chosen, ensures that you have a more remarkable tooth appearance.

Although the durability of Emax crowns is more than sufficient for crowns made for one tooth, it is not preferred in cases such as gap closure due to the lack of teeth that need to be bridged. Dental veneers such as Emax must be applied by experienced dentists who serve in the field of aesthetics. However, cosmetic dental laboratories, which have been serving in this field for a long time and working with successful and high-quality brands, also seriously affect the quality of the treatment. Veneers with Questions and Answers

Is the production of emax dental veneers a painful process?

Since Emax dental coatings are worked by numbing that part of the mouth under local anesthesia, as in other dental coatings, the comfort of the patient during the procedure is at a high level. Since the top layer of the teeth is eroded, we stick their temporary teeth in the mouth as soon as the process is finished in order to ensure the comfort of our patients during the production of their permanent veneers. Thus, our patient does not feel pain, except for minor sensitivities and can pass the process comfortably without falling behind from his daily life.

What is the difference between emax dental veneers and zirconium veneers?

Although zirconium is an aesthetic material, the glass particles in Emax coatings allow us to obtain a much brighter appearance. Although its aesthetic properties are superior, it is not preferred in bridges made to compensate for missing teeth, as it is not as durable as zirconium dental crowns.
